The 2nd GP-Chem International Symposium was held

Based on the GP-Chem philosophy of promoting research and education across a wide range of fields of chemistry, the GP-Chem International Symposium was held at Tohoku University’s Aoba Science Hall on February 21 (Fri.) and 22 (Sat.), 2025. This second symposium featured six invited speakers—three each from University College London (UCL) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), both of which are world-leading institutions and partner universities of GP-Chem. Twelve faculty members from Tohoku University’s Department of Chemistry also gave lectures, and approximately 120 participants from both within and outside the university attended.

The lectures covered a broad spectrum of topics, including nano- and photocatalysis, energy and environmental science, optoelectronics, organic devices, inorganic and organic molecular chemistry, radical and elemental chemistry, catalysis, synthetic chemistry, and biotechnology. These presentations stimulated active discussion and fostered new interdisciplinary connections.

During the symposium, GP-Chem students who had participated in long-term overseas training at UCL and NTU gave presentations on their research activities, offering a valuable opportunity to showcase academic exchange between Tohoku University and the two partner institutions.

The symposium provided a valuable opportunity to gain new knowledge and perspectives through active exchanges with researchers from a wide range of fields. It was also an excellent chance for GP-Chem students to engage directly with cutting-edge research, and they were highly stimulated by the lively Q&A sessions. GP-Chem plans to continue organizing international symposiums in the future.
